Europe double facilitated the conditions of cinematographic co-production for Macedonia

North Macedonia becomes part of the revised European convention for cinematographic co-production in which, besides members, countries not being part of the European Union have the right to participate, possessing potential and staff for work on international projects.

The aim of the revised Convention is to provide legal and financial framework for co-production of feature films incorporating productions established in three or more signatory countries.
It means that the conditions which productions have to meet in order to be considered as co-producers have been DOUBLE reduced for:

Multilateral co-productions now have minimal participation of 5% (previous percentage 10%), while bilateral co-productions have minimal participation of 10% (previous percentage 20%).

I am satisfied that our country gets a better chance for becoming part of big European films in the role of co-producer. The double reduction of the conditions for participating in films which are sometimes very expensive for us means giving a helping hand in the European cinematography – says Gorjan Tozija, director of the Film Agency.

The European fund for co-production and distribution of creative cinematographic and audiovisual works – Euroimage has the permit on such projects but will enable sharing the best practices for them in order to round off easier such kind of cooperations.

This extenuating circumstances for Macedonian productions come into effect officially on 01.10.2020.
